I remember playing Motherload as a kid and was ecstatic to find out that a remake came out! It improves many of the mechanics of the original game while adding many new ones! A great game for passing time.

Great game! I feel its even better than the original however, like almost anything, there are downsides. The multiplayer is local co-op, no option. Thats not too bad, plenty of games function fine local like Magicka and Gauntlet. I feel Super Motherload behaves the same in that aspect, especially with controllers (Plays best with gamepad, Comrade!). The game also seems to lack in content to me but thats remedied by the high replay value. Honestly, thats the only real downside I see and I feel they can easily make it online multiplayer and may even be planning on it. Many complain about the game being too easy and actively ignore hardcore mode or complain about the storyline and how its different from the original. Of course it is, they don't want it to get stale. The graphics are improved of course and I LOVE how it has clever little puzzles that you can solve with different bombs. Nothing feels better that getting a Universe Chain of unobtainium. My brother liked the smelter, I didn't care for it too much. The transmission cutscenes are fully voiced and I absolutely loved that. Honestly, this is one of those games where if you like this type of game but you don't like Super Motherload, its your own damn fault. Many complain about broken textures or black screen and say the GAME is bad for that. Don't listen to them. Great game, great music, great graphics, great replay value, can't really ask for more in a game. BONUS: It comes WITH the original Motherload Goldium edition as well for the nostalgia. Cool.

I played the OG motherload back in the day, but I can't recommend this installment except maybe on steep sale. This game has been made more casual by removing death via fuel emptying. There is no risk or thrill anymore beyond purposefully drilling into lava to optimize gem combos. Specials are obsolete. Their price tag guarantees you won't get any of them until you've already done everything there is to do and mine out your entire world for the funds needed. The specials honestly should have a more compelling unlock condition to them, be more accessible or even maybe being part of the progression itself. Multiple playthroughs don't feel enticing because you've already seen all the puzzles at that point. Yeah, some of the drillers have cool powers but that power doesn't mean anything when you start in a world that is just like any other. I hope something like this gets improved upon, because I really like the idea. More thought and innovation needs to go into it though.

i'v been waiting for this game for years, i'v played the original one so much. i was so disapointed when i bought and played this one, they have turned it into a more arcade style game, i was hoping to get some amazing mining game, sadly i was wrong.

I remember playing Motherload countless hours in Miniclip many years ago. The original game had some cool mechanics that glued together very well. The drill mechanic was fun, the cycle “drill → get resources → sell → improve → go deeper” was rewarding enough to make you wanna keep going, the fuel meter brought that “push your luck” feeling that made you evaluate the cost / benefit of continue or go back to the base all the time. The first half of Super Motherload was exactly what I was looking for, it felt familiar and very enjoyable. During this period, I realized that the empty fuel meter does not kill you anymore, removing key tension moments and strategic from the original. Some new additions do not work well either: - The story is bland and forgettable. - The characters are shallow. - The decisions the game prompts you to make are meaningless. - The missions which objective is just to roam the map wishing to stumble upon items out of pure luck are just boring and effortless designed. The good thing is that any of these things are deal breakers and the core mechanic is fun enough to handle the game’s progress on its own and keep you engaged at least until everything starts to crumble. The issues start after you reach the last base. Once there you have to cover a ridiculous long distance to face the final boss, forcing you to make tens of travels back and forth in order to build yourself a path. At this point the main fun cycle of the game is gone because ship’s improvements are already pointless, this makes the whole section feels extremely repetitive, tedious and not fun. Once reaching the final boss things get worst. Fighting it required you a new set of skills that were not used in any other part of the game before. Also the boss is unforgiving, at the smallest error it’s game over and back to the base to repeat the excessive long drop before being able to retry the boss fight. This greatly adds to the frustration you already carried over on the last hours of the game wrapping up an overall very bad experience. I would not be surprised if the amount of players reaching the final boss and dropping the game without beating it is very high.

A great game, but found it completely unplayable due to repeatedly crashing during the simultanious use of C4 both single player and multiplayer co-op with my friend Kurt. I've troubleshooted on the forums, seen multiple people reporting it almost more than 6 months ago, with no reply and no news of a fix. If not for this, I would reccomend, otherwise, don't waste your money.

Dude the nostalgia, getting the OG mother load version is super cool. The main game is awesome, i just wish we could have some in game visuals when you get upgrades. Overall so much fun, i love getting stoned, playing this and listening to a pod cast. Please give us an update!

Supermotherload : The Up and down game - it drove me up and down!

    Overview:

Mediocre digger game at best - looked good initially, but falls short; this stems from various design decisions that I will describe below : - Look of the game - Placement of minerals - map - Balancing of player systems. - End game balance It all seemed unbalanced to me. But the time wasted going up and down - thanks to refuels - really killed the game for me- that's even if it wasn't mediocre in the first place... On the other hand the map DID go on forever (it felt like it). The Story was quite bad and may as well not be there, so I wont even discuss it.

    Details

Look of the game I found the look of the game - such as the size of the truck - looked a bit odd and the game played like a kind of Dyslexic's diggers game. Everything was so big, as a result there was not quite so much on the screen(I thought)(although I guess they were trying to remain true to Goldium).(I was running at 1980x 1680 though) That was one thing, but the map never changed colour palette in anyway, and the original look was BASIC anyway. If you mined everything in an area you would get this matte black colour with little highlights of greyish-ness. I thought it looked pretty basic and added nothing to the game. Comparing to Steamworld Dig, every-time you pass into the next section the colour palette changes. I think the same happened with Diggers, the 1990's title (my favourite digger game), it wasn't only the palette that changed much but also the extra things that were added in and were to reasonable scale. This map at the end of the game is a total mess... Placement of minerals There were fewer minerals and excitement in extracting on this digging experience, imo. Map the map was made to frustrate I think in that there were un-drillable rocks all over the place, this killed the room allowed for strategies to get up to the top faster (fuel and access to the base was a big deal)i.e. by leaving a kind of lift area. The bottom area I did not even bother explore as it required constant bomb usage, which I had only a handful of each... Let alone the damn Fuel!

    Balancing of Player systems :

Fuel, hull, movement and smelting Fuel Fuel affected everything in the game and made it a chore, if you were not picking up units constantly, then you would be returning half full, only in order to refuel. Playing on hardcore mode to me seems a job for a sadist(I never tried). Thing is , if your fuel tank was double the size, you would have to empty your cargo anyway, and it may have made smelting worth it(or more worth it). So I think the weakest link in this game design was definitely the fuel capacity - it would have saved everyone precious hours in going up and down ; and round the bend. Hull damage and movement Hull damage was not a problem (i think) but movement was. The vehicle has some inertia. There would be over acceleration and then inertia(no acceleration): this inevitably led to the vehicle, especially with the tread and rotor upgrades SLAMMING into the wall at short notice, damaging you. This was really also frustrating and nearly resulted in death for me, as well as 50% of the damage I took. smelting The smelting system which is part of an upgrade system... (NOT a passive skill which was a bad design choice imo!) excluded the combo system at the start. The mentality required for the Smeltering or combos system required collecting materials in order. This meant your fuel efficiency was reduced and also you would have to go round in circles and sometimes cut off key areas; which meant risking losing access to minerals for a long time or for good. It was not even really a big deal at the start of the game as returns for the silver+ bronze + gold were very fleeting and hardly worth it. I found it took considerable effort (and fuel!) chaining those 3. end game balance As with everything( money , cargo and other upgrades and consumables - as well as effectiveness of the smelter ) : very little showed much more than a grind at the start. Until at the end, where you would be making a considerable amount of money. Did not like how the successive hubs prices were exponentially higher than the ones before I would have paid though... I wasted enough time going up and down!

Playing this game with three friends is incredibly fun. It gives a great mix of interesting puzzles, leizurely grind, and the occasional frantic burst.
