  While not as close to the original Doom as some would have liked, Doom 3 is definitely worth a play through. The atmosphere is what really stands out here. The UAC base on Mars is a monster all on its own. Its a very claustrophobic, dark, and lonely place surrounded by nothing but steel and advanced machinery. You truly feel alone most of the time. I highly recommend playing the original Doom 3 instead of the BFG Edition. The BFG Edition ruined the atmosphere by making the environment brighter and giving the player a flashlight that can be turned on at will. This is not how the game was designed to be played and ruins the experience. Get original Doom 3 and download the ''absolute HD" mod, play alone at night with headphones on and you will have a great time.

  Doom 3 and the expansion original versions are far better than the BFG versions of the game.

  The best DooM ever created. The best sound in the videogame industry (Trent Reznor soundpack, if you want even more). Top notch horror, top notch shooter, the last masterpiece from ID software. SHOTGUN FIX MOD is strongly RECOMMENDED! Flashlight mod too, but do not use the flashlight all the time and do not use the SoulCube, guys. Gameplay: combat mechanics 10/10 combat logic 6/10 atmosphere 10/10 Gameplay as immersive horror 10/10 Story 6/10 Graphics 10/10 Sounds & music 10/10 . I can't believe you cut the horrifying cut-scenes of "Pinky" from the release version, devs! This could be the greatest horror game of all time!

  Despite what the overall community says, its a good game. While the game-play isn't exactly fans of the series expect, it does give us a horror-shooter from 2004. If it wasn't for John Carmack, the game wouldn't have looked so good on release. However, if someone does trash the game, make sure they've done research; the history behind this game and its design choices are really cool to learn about. Obviously this review may not get seen by the wider audience, since now only the BFG edition is available... but I thought I'd just leave my mark while I can. Now I only have one gripe... that shotgun. It sucks. Most of the other weapons do manage to even out damage... but its not as meaty, and doesn't even come close to DOOM II's shotgun. Everyone can agree there.
