Let me start off by saying, I LOVE THIS GAME! If you like Harvest Moon or Stardew, you will love this game. (YOU CAN PAUSE THE GAME, BTW.) You start off as an adventurer coming to a new town. There's a super fun character creation, you can be an elf, demon, naga, and more! You get to customize your tails and wings and horns, super fun. Once you get there, you can farm, mine, adventure, etc. Even though initially its a farming game like Stardew, it also allows you to explore. There are north, east and west forests to go through, leading to multiple places. (I havent seen gotten to the end of them yet so I can't comment on that) but it's a lot of fun. The atmosphere is super cozy, the characters are all cute, and the conversations are GREAT! The dev really put time into being able to chat with the people. They bring up different conversations, ask you about things, and your answer sways their heart level depending on what you say. I could go on and on, but i'll make a pros and cons list: PROS: -YOU CAN PAUSES THE GAME (unlike previously stated) the settings gives you an option to make the time stop while there is text on the screen, so to 'pause' the game, just talk to someone. You can even run into your bed for the text to pop up and leave it there for a 'pause'. I like that being in the menu doesn't pause the game because while I wait for people to come out of their houses I can level up my skills. -Skills! So many skills, but not overwhelming. I love being able to upgrade skills at my own pace and the way it's set up is nice. -Having magic is a super fun touch. You get them through leveling certain skills. -The townsfolk are super fun. -You can pet your cows and chickens as many times as you want and they are adorable. You don't have to buy a million items to milk them/sheer them/ etc. You just pet them and they give you milk and eggs. -A BIG ONE, YOU DONT GIVE PEOPLE ITEMS ON ACCIDENT IF YOU ARE HOLDING THEM! The "give a gift" option pulls up your inventory so you can choose what gift to give. -You can choose how fast you want your day to be, 20 min, 30 min or 40 min. I LOVE THIS. Some days when I have a lot to get done, I choose a longer day. Sometimes when I only have a few minutes to play, I pick a shorter day. You can make the day shorter while you're waiting for something, then toggle it to be longer once you are done waiting. -You cook and eat food to PERMANENTLY level your mana, speed, and health. Your speed at first is slow walking, but you can level up a skill to jump-dash so you can dash around town quickly. Then, just increase your mana (permanently!) by eating. -There are a LOT of things to do, but just like stardew, but i don't feel rushed. I feel like the game has enough to keep me interested and the spawn rates are great. -You can build armor and upgraded tools in your own farm once you have the items necessary, (no waiting 3 days.) -you can buy a lot of the items you need. If you spend all your time farming and have hella money, you can use that money to, for example, buy ore and other items needed instead of mining, if you dont want to mine as much. CONS: (Minor, minimal, nitpicky stuff that does not deter me from the game at all!) -Initially the game was a bit slow because in order to do quests, you had to sit and wait for people to leave their house. However, once they get one or two hearts (not hard to do) you can go into their house and give them the quest items or just chat. Now, It doesn't bother me. -The town layout seemed a bit clunky at first, but now that I'm used to it, it's ok. You can also open up shortcuts, which makes it easier. -I ACCIDENTLY FIRE BOLTED LIAM'S CROPS AND GOT ARRESTED! Don't let the magic hit the crops lmao. Please change that. -I wish there were more scenes once the hearts go up. I'm at 6-8 hearts with a lot of the townsfolk and you get new conversations, but no scenes (like if you walk in their house for the first time, etc.) -I wish the menu gave a list of the items that the townsfolk like and dislike AS YOU GIVE THEM ITEMS so there aren't spoilers, but you can fill out the likes/dislikes as you give gifts. -A few times, the conversation has been weird. The fisherman came to my house to ask me if I had used my fishing pole before I even got the pole, however, it was okay because I didn't know he was there so afterword I went to go grab the fishing pole and meet him. -Whenever I go to Claude's house it gives me options like "what are you doing outside?" even though I'm in his house. One of the comments while i was inside his house talking to him was, "You should come over sometime!" I know it was because of the hearts, but maybe add something like "It's fun to have you at my house!" instead. (This is super nitpicky stuff, im completely fine if this never gets changed) -Honestly while I was playing I had maybe 1 or 2 more cons, but I can't even think of them so they proably arent even that bad. Overall I LOVE THIS GAME. I already feel like it's a fully finished game, I can't wait for the rest of it to be released. I'm obsessed with this game and I have the same feeling as I had when I played Stardew. I have homework to do, but I can't stop playing! lol. Thank you dev for this amazing game. It's quickly becoming one of my faves!

I wish this game could be true coop :( I have bought it to spend some time with my partner and I have mixed feelings. The game looks beautiful and I would like to play it more, but after an hour of side questing apart my partner (because side quests are random and can't be shared) I am disappointed. I will come back in the future if the developers fix coop mode, but for now I'll stop playing solo mode.

I discovered Sun Haven yesterday and was intrigued by the comparisons to SDV and by some differences (which I will discuss more below) it has with SDV. I put in ~3 hours yesterday getting to day 5 of this game and I'm totally intrigued. There's so much to do, there are so many people to meet, and there is no artificial energy cap, so I feel like I can get SO MUCH DONE in a given day. Basic story of Sun Haven: You are a new farmer moving into the community of Sun Haven, which has a nearby bustling town, forests on both the western and eastern sides of the town, a mine, and a beach to the south. This world has magic and many different types of magical people living together, so expect to see dragons, witches, elves, etc., all over the place. I haven't gotten this far yet, but there is a whole 'nother city (Withergate) for you to visit. Like SDV, you can choose how to go about your day: farming, fishing, fighting (in the forest or mines), taking on quests from the quest board, completing main story quests, mining, building relationships, cooking, crafting, etc. You also discover magic a few days into the game. Note that this game is still in early access, so they are constantly still adding to the game and tweaking it. _____________________________________________________________ Here is a list of the things I've found totally charming (and potentially unique / different from SDV): - character customization has more variety. You can choose one from several species and dress up your character as you wish. As far as I can tell, these different species are purely aesthetic and don't have different stats. The options are: human, elf, demon, angel, amari, elemental, naga. - while there are not different types of farms like in SDV, the farm is large, has direct access to the beach and western forest, AND you choose the location of your home anywhere within the farm area. - right from the start, you have access to many crafting recipes (via a crafting table). You can start building the moment you have the materials. - As far as I can tell, crows don't come and eat your crops in this game. - you can customize the game settings, including how zoomed-in your screen is, and (most importantly!) how quickly a day passes (20, 30, or 40 minutes each). - it looks like the game autosaves, and you can exit at any time (without having to go through the "go to sleep" screen like in SDV) - there is no artificial energy cap, so right from the start you feel like you can do so much in a day. Even though your tools are crap at the beginning, you can start crafting your own tools as soon as you start working in the mines to find ore (which can occur as early as the first day). Higher quality and rarer ores = better tools. - Unlike SDV, different levels of the mine are locked behind gates. These gates can be temporarily (for the whole day you are currently on) opened by using a rusty key you find on the same floor, OR you can permanently open that level of the mine using a key you craft from ore on that level (such as a copper key for the first 5 levels, iron key for the levels after that, etc). - the skills you learn can be leveled up VERY quickly. In ~3 hours of game play yesterday, I earned probably 2-5 skill points in each skill except fishing. Unlike SDV where you get a skill ability at level 5 and 10, these skills are broken up into skill trees, so with every skill point, you can prioritize different play styles. For example, you can choose between ore deposits dropping an extra ore, or being granted a bit of extra gold each day. These aren't exclusive, either. as long as you have a skill point, you can choose any (and presumably, eventually, all) of the skill abilities. - the skill trees include stuff that aren't directly connected to that skill. for example, you can choose skill abilities that improve your movement speed and how far you can jump. - Starting from day 1, you have 2 daily tasks on the quest board that should be completed within a couple of days. these tasks so far have all been reasonable to complete, and each completed task grants two levels of rewards: a set reward (which can include stuff like an item, gold, or bonus experience points in a skill) and a chosen award (where you choose between stuff like extra gold, or extra experience points in a skill) - You can also get access to weapons (sword & crossbow) and the base fishing rod right from the very beginning of the game, so you can truly just jump in and start doing whatever you want to do. - there is a pass-out mechanic that happens if you're out too late (midnight instead of 2 am). - I have only played single player, but this game does have a multiplayer option (I think it goes up to 7 people?) ______________________________________________________________ So far there are only two things that I haven't LOVED about it: - fishing (the action to cast the line in particular feels sort of awkward.) the act of catching the fish does feel more straightforward than in SDV - you just have to click when the fishing bar is in the correct area, rather than keep the fishing bar in the correct area for a set amount of time. - the action button (left mouse) feels a bit clunky with some actions. For example, in SDV when you click on a plot that is immediately next to your character to water it, it waters that exact spot. if you click on the screen far away from your character, he/she will water the spot that is immediately in front of it. In THIS game, the character doesn't behave the same. You need to have your mouse on the correct side of your character, or they will not water the plot you intended to water. This becomes tricky especially with fighting - if a monster is to your left, you need your mouse pointer to be on the left side of your character, or else you'll swing your sword in the incorrect direction. The action button is clunky, but I've found that it really only is a detraction from the game when you're in a higher-stakes situation, such as when monsters are around and you're fighting (you lose health pretty quickly early on). ______________________________________________________________ With all that said, I'm still very, very early into this game. I love that this game is in alpha and new, because I can't just go look up something when I get stumped. It feels a lot like the first time I played SDV when it first came out, and I had to discover everything for myself. Due to how customizable the game is and since it doesn't have an energy meter, it feels very relaxing right off the bat. You don't have to worry about beating the clock of the day, since you can change how fast a day passes. You can do a lot in one day, since you don't have an energy meter to worry about. And there are a lot of ways to earn money, so prioritizing one skill over another is a totally valid way to get started in this game. You don't have to hustle one skill (like farming) just to get a steady income going. I highly recommend this if you're looking for something to scratch your SDV itch, but also if you're looking for something that expands on the base that SDV set.

I love this game, and aside from a few mechanical issues, it's a genuinely pleasant and rewarding experience.

    Pros:

    - Fun and super relaxed gameplay akin to Animal Crossing. Unlike other certain titles, the game doesn't punish you or your friendship gauges for spending more time questing or farming instead of constantly placating townsfolk. - Progress at your own pace! Unless it's a bulletin board quest, NPC tasks allow you to take as much time as you need to fulfill them. You also won't be constantly bogged down by frequent NPC requests. - TONS of avenues for level progression in all skills. You can make jams for slow and dirty and EXP gains, or stick to doing other related tasks. Everything you do turns into progress, and that feels really good where other games punish you for "not doing enough" or "working harder". - There isn't any rush to maximize output or profit on your farm, so you can take your time setting it up and the crops you want to grow. There is a good balance between leveling and getting more out of your crafting and produce. - Crafting rewards show up early so you're not punished or at risk of not having enough of something -- ie running low on animal feed. - Speaking of animals, they're actually profitable and easy to tend to, and the housing and auto-feeders are reasonably affordable. You also only need a small number of animals to see a profit in Sun Haven. - I love the fishing mini-game, it's simple and not too difficult once the appropriate bonuses are gained.

    Cons/Nitpicks:

    1) Game does not pause while crafting, shopping, or when chests are open -- while it happens rarely, you can pass out just trying to put things away. 2) The only pause button (ESC key) is unbindable, meaning lots of room to absentmindedly lose game time. 3) Hopefully to be added(?), but currently the game lacks any automation for farming, save for a few spells and barn auto feeder/collector. You have to manually water/till/pick each individual farm on each map, which is quite time-consuming. 4) Nel'vari and Withergate shop prices for seeds are absurdly high-priced given how difficult it currently is to make large profits. 5) Player placed tile and fencing alignment is off-center, has gaps, and lacks seamless overlay. Creates awkward corners and unaesthetic edges. 6) NPC romance feature is unfinished/glitched: • Characters like Nathaniel lack broader prompts and dialogue. It would be nice to actually banter more with both the townsfolk and romance-ables -- maybe throw in a few more compliments and quips. • Ignored, missed and even denied dates count as being "done", but without the heart gains. Valuable character information can be missed unless done perfectly. • It's definitely easier to unintentionally woo certain NPCs over others due to frequent story-based interaction. Other than outright avoiding certain NPCs, it might be good to have a few neutral options in chat to prevent unintended romances. 7) Mild nitpick -- there being only 1 save file that auto-saves TOO frequently, meaning no do-overs for mistakes. Even cold-exiting the game will still count progress (you can use a backup, but you may lose a bit of progress depending on how old the bkup is). 8) Lots of little glitches, such as dropped items not being able to be picked up again right away, chickens and other animals crawling through walls, jumping platforms being slippery/uneven, etc.

I absolutely love this game my daughter recommended it to me as we played SDV together. This game has improved the formula exponentially. In short its amazing as an early access. Im 18 hours in and playing currently only stopped to write a review. Working on getting new spells !! If you like this genre get it period. Worth it and more. Only suggestion I would make is I am a disabled gamer. My eyesight is poor. Some games offer the option to increase size of the txt. Please include this option for disabled people. I would make the game more accessible for me and many other that enjoy this genre. I am an absolute fan. Your money will be well spent!

    Nov 5, 2022

If you're a fan of Stardew Valley, please keep reading this review because this will fulfill your needs and much more. As someone who's played over 400 hours of Stardew Valley on the switch and steam combined, finding this game has topped my favorite "Escape squad" list. This game took away the stress of Energy consumption, added magic, control on how fast or slow the time goes by, relatable and likable characters, zero stress on keeping up friendships because it doesn't decrease, more than enough things to do, and so much more! Below I will detail what stands so far out Sun Haven in comparison to Stardew Valley. I like to game very relaxed and make the most of my time playing, so two things that stressed me out about Stardew was Energy consumption (although yes, you can increase it via stardrops and eating) and time management (cause we all know that time flies by in stardew). Having to choose what I wanted to do that day just to focus on mining, fishing, farming, blah blah blah was sort of annoying for a game that's meant to be chill. Sun Haven fixed that for me. You have the option to control how fast or slow you want the time to run. Yes, it still has a time deadline to reach your bed or you pass out, but you can make a single day last anywhere from 15 minutes to a whopping 40 minutes. You know how much I was able to do in 40 minutes?! was able to mine, work on friendships, farm, fish, AND work on the main storyline. By the time I was ready to start the next day, I still had several (in-game) hours left to go! So out to kill some monsters I went. Increasing your stats is simple and easy, and with the addition to the "Talent tree" you have full control as to how to spend it, you're not restricted. Increasing your health and mana was also refreshing for me to see that I can simply sit there and eat away all my forageables made me feel stronger (still can't fight my way through the east forest though). There's just so much to do and so much I love about this game that I can't even write it all down! This has become an essay as it is, so final statement. If you're looking for a game where you can truly kick back, relax, and get lost into a world without stress and constraints, GET THIS GAME! Currently trying to get my husband to join me (he's not a gamer but he'll do it if it makes me happy). Ok ok, last time.... BUY BUY BUY THIS GAME!
